Review - Indigenous Games

Mid August, 2008 - the North American Indigenous Games

NAIG was great.  I was busy as all heck during the games but it was awesome.  I played about 6 six shows, some traditional Metis Music and then some of my own.  My show on the mainstage was taped for broadcast on APTN's the MIX which will be cool to see.   I also MC'd the mainstage on Wednesday night and gave a couple motivational style talks in the Cowichan Theatre.

It was really inspiring to see that many aboriginal people together.

I think the moment that sticks out in my head the most from the games occured during the entrance to the opening ceremonies.  After playing music down the road in the opening procession, we were welcomed onto the grounds by about 1000 people with handdrums.

I wouldn't be able to fully descibe how it felt but it was pure medicine - the kind of energy that goes right into your soul and makes you stronger.

Looking back on this year, I feel really fortunate that I have been afforded some of the opportunities that I have been given.  That drum entrance and also the entrance afforded to us Role Models at Rideau Hall were extremely powerful.  Very humbling - moments that will stick with me for all time.
